Officials with the city of Santa Clarita’s Public Art Project have chosen 10 works in September from those submitted by local artists to be featured on transit bus shelters throughout Santa Clarita to celebrate the Festival of the Arts, set for Oct. 2 and 3 Old Town Newhall.

The city’s Arts and Events Office and the Santa Clarita Arts Commission recently released a “Call for Artists” to seek artworks for this Art Stop Project public art program, produced in association with the city’s annual Festival of the Arts.

Artists who submitted work utilized a variety of techniques including, photography, painting and multimedia to express the theme "A Fresh Look."

The selected artists are Naomi Scully, Geraldine Jouvin, Barbara Carter, Natalie Franco, Natali Pineda Pezzini, Bob Hernandez, Ioana Urma and Cha-Rie Tang.

Each artist will receive a stipend of $200 in addition to having their work featured during the Festival of the Arts.

“There is a tremendous amount of talent in this city and the selected artworks truly show that the arts are alive in our community,” Mayor Pro-tem Marsha McLean said.

The Festival of the Arts is a weekend to enjoy visual, multimedia and alternative artisans creating art from conception to completion. Watch as street painters use more than 5,472 pieces of pastels to paint a masterpiece in the middle of Main Street.
