Prep track and field: West Ranch senior leads local contingent at indoor state meet

West Ranch senior Nick Bultman recorded a pair of top-five finishes at the California State Indoor Track and Field meet on Saturday in Fresno.

Bultman finished third in the shot put with a toss of 53 feet, 5 1/2 inches, and he was fifth in the weight throw with a mark of 52-2.

Also on Saturday, Hart High senior Austin O'Neil also recorded an impressive finish, winding up third in the mile with a time of 4 minutes, 29.77 seconds.

Several other Foothill League athletes competed on Saturday as well. Canyon junior Rianna Goins wound up eighth in the 800 with a time of 2:28.49, and Valencia junior Xiomara Perkins was 13th in the same race at 2:39.07.

On the boys side, Valencia senior Clint Gingrich finished 18th in the 800 in 2:12.51, and Canyon senior Drew Lopez finished 20th in 2:17.38.

Hart junior Josh Sherfey competed in the boys’ two-mile race, finishing 14th with a time of 10:19.96.
