Letter: McKeon’s personal touch sets him apart

Ever since Howard “Buck” McKeon, R-Santa Clarita, recently let the people of Santa Clarita down by not helping to stop the Cemex mine from moving forward, he has been on my list of incumbents I would like to help remove.

However, something happened recently that has me thinking I may change my mind. Not long ago, I wrote to McKeon suggesting that there should be an amendment so that children born here to illegal immigrants would not automatically become American citizens.

At the same time, I wrote to Sen. Dianne Feinstein about the same issue.

Now I know it’s probably staff that answers such letters, but the responses that I received were so different that I have more appreciation for McKeon.

Feinstein’s response seemed like a form letter with little grasp or interest in my concerns.

McKeon’s response was totally different. It made me feel that he understood my concern, has taken action in the past concerning this matter and would continue to do so.

On occasion I’ve written to state Sen. Tony Strickland, R-Simi Valley, and his response was also very satisfactory.

If your readers would like to get a feel of whether your representative is really concerned about his or her constituents, I suggest they write and voice a concern. The response will open some eyes.

Or....
We could actually look at voting records and what they actually did as our representative. Then base our vote off what they have or haven't done rather then how they make us feel.

Buck having a staff that writes a decent response does nothing to change the facts of his track record. Look at that and then decide how you'll vote.

Talk, or in this case written word, is cheap. Actions speak loader then words!

I don't give a crp whether his letters are pretty and his shoes are shiny. The only thing that matters is his performance. And it stinks.

First we need an Amendment to make sure US Representatives don't get captured by their institutional campaign donors.

Does Howard fly commercial? I remember John McCain had one of Bud Paxson's jets at his disposal when he was Chairman at the Senate Commerce Committee. Paxson and the Hicks Brothers were about to form what would become Clear Channel Radio at the time. Commerce oversees the FCC. The FCC's approval was needed for Paxson to sell his stations.

I've written Buck e-mails before, asking for responses and have gotten canned responses back that make me feel ignored.

@Dude----"I've written Buck e-mails before, asking for responses and have gotten canned responses back that make me feel ignored."

And I guess that you think that you would get personalized responses to any e-mails that you might send to either dianne feinstein or barbara boxer-----REALLY?????

Deeds - Not words

Talk is cheap. Look at his record instead. Throw the bum out, he does not represent the needs of the SCV at all.
