The 21-year-old Newhall man arrested this week for allegedly possessing an explosive device was employed as a safety inspector, a county official said today.
"He had a (carbon dioxide) container filled with primer powder," a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department official said. "He made an IED."
IEDs, or improvised explosive devises such as a homemade bomb, are illegal in California.
The man, who lived on Arcadia Street, was arrested just before 2 a.m. Monday and was being held Wednesday in a Los Angeles County jail on $500,000 bail, according to county booking records.
He could face up to a year in a county jail for the misdemeanor charge, district attorney's office spokeswoman Jane Robison said.
