Motorists negotiate the intersection of Golden Valley Road and Centre Pointe Parkway in Santa Clarita after a power outage darkened this and other traffic signals on Thursday evening.

A number of residences and businesses are experiencing power outages this evening after a small fire broke out in a Canyon Country electrical vault on Soledad Canyon Road.

According to a Los Angeles County Fire Department official, the fire was reported at 20401 Soledad Canyon Road at 5:07 p.m. Although the fire was not active and was quickly extinguished, an unknown number of area homes and businesses are experiencing a power outage.

Fire officials said Southern California Edison workers had arrived on scene around 5:40 p.m.

I was in Sam's Club when the power went out. We had to leave our groceries because they couldn't even check us out. That's what sucks about an all computerized system. Sure hope the power is back up soon over there or their perishables will be spoiled. You would think that Sam's Club or anywhere else with perishable food items would have a generator.
